Thanks, Star13570. I did some research on this moth, don't remember coming across the name hornet moth. Maybe that's another variety of the same type of insect.

its a hornet moth disguised to look like a hornet probably to scare away predators.

I came across this video after seeing something just like this in our garden (10 minutes ago). It had a glossy bee striped bottom and a long beak it was guzzling sap off of a tree with. Its wings moved so fast but i could definitely make out 2 red or orange circles on its wings (one on each) and a stripe curving across its wings. The stripe was a dark brown while the wings were a lighter color. The upper part of the moth that the wings were attached to was hairy.

A little bit magic, and a little bit just plain odd. I can't wait 'til summer, for some reason these guys like to hang out in my bathroom.
