Joe Cummings visits the Garden Prairie Horse farm and learns about breeding horses. He is confronted with the most graphic elements of animal breeding. Cummings closes the program with this summary: "So that's how horses do it. That's the whole secret. They don't know each other too well, they know each other from around the stables and out here in the field, but uh, they just got together and did their thing. And they'll know in 48 hours if it took, and if it didn't, then Little Petal and Flying Rich get together again. And they do what folks do...they make it!" It really is nothing guys. When big time breeders have that much money invested they make darn sure a mare IS ovulating before they breed. That is why the stallion walked up and sniffed(aka teased) her for a few before he bred her. If she had squealed or tried to kick, he wouldn't have bred her. Everything else is just a precaution for all involved. Generally if a mare says NO, that means there is something wrong that needs to be tended to, ie infection, etc.

It's true. Mares do this all the time. But luckily, some mares are infertile, meaning they could never have any foals. But in a way, breeding mares is good, because once they are in heat, she becomes very unhappy. Emotionalyy and physically. so in a way, she's being helped.
