There is aboslutely no question that Behrens is the greatest Elektra ever, as attested by the greatest ovation in the history of the Met Opera she received for the Opening Night of Elektra in 1994, the one shown in the video.

Indeed everything German is great, but Hildegard Behrens is the greatest German, with the exception of Richard Wagner. What a culture to produce two people like that, such depth, such understanding of human nature. Behrens is unquestionably a magnificent dramatic singer, but to read her written work, what a fabulous thinker also!!!!!! No wonder she is such a great artist becasue there is a great mind also behind those mighty vocal chords.
