However, if by saying 'pianos' you were referring specifically to the modern instrument and not using the term generally, so as to include the 'fortepiano' of Bach's time, then I apologize; for it is true that they are arguably very different instruments!

I don't mean to critsize aggressively, only to be informative in my correction: Clavichord is not a correct translation of Clavier. Clavier did and does refer to any keyboard instrument. Also, there were in fact pianos in Bach's day--it merely wasn't an instrument of his preference. That said, it is still quite safe to say that his keyboard music is best played on harpsichord or organ but that the less-so dynamic pianos of his time are arguably more suitable for his music than is the modern.

avoid the pedal. there are no pedal markings and this music was written for instruments without sustain pedals. it wasn't meant to be and it just makes it muddy.

Right, but the piece is from a book called "The Well-Tempered Clavichord." They didn't have pianos in Bach's day.

I am knowticing it too, but only after you pointed it out. I'm sure that there are many different variations, as others have said, but I think I prefer the version without the extra note. Having said that I wouldn't have noticed it unless you'd said. And Jh8812 is still very tallented.
