Perhaps they are getting away with saying he was the first to win the US Open because at the time that Gibson won it the tournament was called the US National Championchips. I learned this when watching a Gibson video just now. :)

I don't get it. The first African American to win the US Open was Althea Gibson in 1957 (and 1958), not Arthur Ashe. She was also the first African American to win Wimbledon (57 and 58) and the French Open (56). She was also one of the first African Americans to play professional golf. Run Athletics needs to get its facts straight because there's no way a man as great as Arthur Ashe would them disrespecting someone person (Gibson) who paved the way not only for him but Tiger Woods as well.

Some people on this comment page need to rethink what they are saying. to say all black people are lazy you have to be an idiot. do you personally know every black person. If not then you can not generalize a whole race. I am black and i know for a fact that all blacks are not lazy because if they were then we would not have black doctors, lawyers, and business men.

Some black people are lazy. Some white people are lazy. Ditto people of all races. Not every member of a race is lazy. Women have been more oppressed than any other group, and I bet you're cool with that. After all - we don't work, do we? Yeah. Tell your mom that, you dork.

Bull fucking shit, black people are lazy, quit your fucking liberal guilt. what's the diff. between an immigrant with nothing and a poor african american person? the african american person has US Citizenship! Now if the black person works as hard as the immigrant, he should achieve success as much as easy as the immigrant. don't go, oh! black people were oppressed...everyone was repressed, not just them!
