A good friend just got an acoustic bass....I'm hoping he'll learn this song. I saw the comments below and thought the insight might inspire him. Got that Mick - gotta hold it with your thumb and index finger and slap with the middle or ring finger! I love this song! And to dial - you just put your finger in the hole and make little circles.....(sorry couldn't resist the Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" quote)

yea he's using a pick. he's holding the pick with his thumb and index finger and slaps with the ring finger or middle finger

ok. im hoping a fellow bass player// someone with better eyesight then me, can clear something up. Is the bass player using a pick? I though so, but then he is able to slap/pop the bass. Write back please.-100ftninja

I've never considered Violent Femmes as '80's music'. They are ageless. One of my all time favorite bands.

This song rocks! My friends and I used to sing this and "blister in the sun" on our way to see rocky horror picture show every weekend. Those were the days!!!
