Even though legally he doesn't have to, Weird Al has gotten permission for every parody song he has ever created. That's something I respect. Even if Weird Al didn't ask permission and just gave credit where credit is due, I would still give that more respect than someone intentionally trying to pass something off as their own. Plus, the originator would still make money off of it. That's what Chuck Berry had to sue to get.

The only talented musician/songwriter for the Beach Boys was Brian Wilson. He didn't even like the Beach. The whole concept of the Beach Boys is posing. Brian Wilson can't even stand Mike Love. Chuck Berry was truly original. That's why his music was blasted into space.

I think you have a point, but the Beach Boys are in a genre of their own, and they have a LOT more than those two...besides, that's music for you, almost every musician takes ideas from other artists, and expands on those ideas.

Stop the arguing and the dissing. Brian Wilson credited "Surfin' USA" to "Berry/Wilson." That ain't exactly a steal. If anything it's a total Homage! THere is probably narry a one Rocker that does not owe something if not a lot to Chuck Berry. Just about every rock guitarist used and incorporated his licks. Meanwhile, about this videoclip: Is this a part of a feature film? The filming is great! This live rendition is totally right on, and I'm happy to have seen it!

Beach Boys rip off the this song for Surfin' U.S.A. Then they rip off the opening solo from Johnny B. Goode for Fun, Fun, Fun.I say fuck the Beach Boys. |
