John Psathas' dramatic adaptation of Dimitri Shostakovich's "Pirogov" used for the final flame sequence during the opening ceremony of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. All of Psathas's contributions to the soundtracks of the Athens2004 Opening and Closing ceremonies were closely supervised by musical director George Koumendakis.

At last, can't you see the symbolism of the Athens 2004 lighting? It is the cauldron that comes to meet the athlete! Man dominates the machines. Human beings were the centre of the Athens 2004 opening ceremony! That's all. Nothing more, nothing less...

Ah yes, i agree wit u. But Beijing's was spectacular as well.....it was real beautiful, with the cauldron rite at the top, and the guy "running" at the roof. N their torch was unique as well

i know its gonna seem so biased but i think sydney was the best olympics in general. The lighting of the cauldron was ridiculously dull in athens considering as everyone has been saying it was the games back where they originally started. i would have rathered seen one of the women that ignite the flame in olympia light the cauldron! The lighting of the beijing cauldron was amazing, but sydney was so much mroe powerful with the pool of water and the cauldron rising. Absolutely Breathtaking!!!
