I don't think there's necessarily an increase in China - just that the gradually opening China is allowing some freedoms of expression. Nobody can enforce a belief system (in China's case state-worship/atheism) over the top of another (religion). My father-in-law works in China, his theory is that its a nation of natural capitalists living under a communist government. I'm sure religion was virtually unaffected by Communist rule - it just went underground.

Then again you could argue that religion can cause nut jobs flying planes into towers.

Christianity may not be growing much in the US but we are seeing significant increases in the christian populations of China(Although the Chinese government would never admit it) and Africa.

okay, I get your point. But just in case you misunderstood mine, I was asking about the pie chart that showed the percentage of the world's population for each religion, not the map that showed the distribution of the religions around the world. So, even according to high estimates, Jews account for less than 1% of the world's population, which, I understand now, answers my original question; he probably left it out of the pie chart intentionally.

I think the idea, which is of course nonsense, is that atheism leads to a lack of respect for life. Also that atheists wouldn't hold to the moral code handed down from on high. Anything would be permitted to an atheist. That doesn't hold water but it's how I've heard it described.

Pretty much, you have to be born Jewish. They don't seek (or much like) converts. That's a big difference they have with the other religions. It's true that most Jews live in the US or Israel now, but they mostly moved there in the last one hundred years, so it still doesn't really help Dennet's point.
