Kind of like Dusty Springfield - "Son of a Preacher Man". Awesome soul for a Brit. I say that as a white as pissfoam gringo American.

In 70 and 71 they got a lot of airplay, especially for "Only You Know That I Know", that was pretty big for them. It was still mostly AM at the time - FM hadn't been quite developed yet. I know them from this period. They swung pretty good for white folks.

more obscure really, but a good sized following, and most definitely "musicians" musicians...You sort of had to be there and see it live to appreciate it all as it unfolded. Related to this is Leon Russell and his tours from back then...that may help put it all in a more full perspective. Just my opinion from being there in the thick of it all.

i recently discovered Delaney and Bonnie from reading about Festival Express (i'm only 18)....naturally i liked them since i am a fan of blues, roots rock and soul music...it seems to me that they were extremely influential on Clapton, the Rolling Stones and other great musicians...but could someone who knows them very well explain to me how "big" they truly were during their time...did they have a large following amond the masses or were they more like "musicians' musicians" and more obscure

I am still wondering where the 1968 Martin D-45 that Clapton is playing in this clip is. I did not see it in any of the Clapton auctions. It is the same guitar I see in pictures of the Derek and the Dominoes session pictures. It must be worth close to what the Fender Blackie and the Red Gibson 335 went for a number of years ago. That Martin is the one you hear on Layla at the end, doubling the piano part. Where is that guitar?

Yeah, we can agree that Clapton is god.
