In fairness, I'm not bothered enough to argue for what seems like weeks about when Indie started or what Indie is. All I know is that I like it and obviously all you like it or you wouldn't be here so who gives a shit. I agree that people over genre-fy music into menaingless pigeonholes and I agree that Indie began in the early 80's with the Smith's, Gang of Four! etc etc, I've been misunderstood and misquoted. So let's just enjoy French Dog Blues now, hmmm?

Tall Ciaran you haven't a breeze. Indie started with the Libertines??? Maybe it did for you but it goes back as far as Stone Roses, The Smiths and the whole Madchester scene.

Well, do you know how annoying it is when people are TOO specific and TOO precise about a musical genre? It's fucking juvenile!! Why must music nowadays be categorized into painstakingly all-inclusive brands? What ever happened to just the basic 4 or 5 genres? I understand what you're referring to when you say "Indie", but in different parts of the world, like the US, for instance, indie doesn't necessarily mean guitar music. It can also mean solo singer/songwriters on the piano.

1st msg: Why must everyone constantly refer back to this traditional meaning of Indie? Wicked used to mean bad, now it means good, in certain circles bad now means good. Words change meaning and Indie now refers to a brand of British lead guitar-based music that The Libertines started and that includes Babyshambles. That's what we call it in England anyway. It is branded about a little too often, which is annoying but fuck off about independant music. It really gets on my tits.
