Carlin was at his best poking fun at 1960s Top 40 radio on his RCA album "Take Offs and Put Ons." After "The Hair Piece" George never appealed to me as much and his wit gave way to hopeless cynicism as he aged.

Jimmy headlined several variety shows in the '50s- "FOUR STAR REVUE", "COLGATE COMEDY HOUR", and "TEXACO STAR THEATER: THE JIMMY DURANTE SHOW", and they usually ended with him walking under those spotlights into "infinity" with his "Mrs. Calabash" tag...he appeared frequently on "THE HOLLYWOOD PALACE" in the mid-'60s, and hosted his own variety hour with The Lennon Sisters in 1969-'70...

If I remember correctly, Jimmy Durante once had his own variety show. He would close by uttering his catch phrase, "Goodnight, Mrs. Calabash, where ever you are," and slowly exited the stage, lit only by three large spotlights.

It certainly was -- "the ol' schnozz" -- Jimmy Durante. He was the narrator for "Frosty" when it debuted back in the 60s.

Young and harmless. Naive as the decade itself.

From how I remember it, he said that he realized where the market was.. in so many words.. He went from conservative.. to be allowed on air, to realizing the 60s' were about protest, and he nailed that even better! So brilliant. Comedy is not easy.
