it's not free bop they're creating here . . . there's no such thing. it's supposed to be called "free jazz". also, what they're doing here was the birth of avant garde . . . amazing music. grachan moncur III is my fav avant-gardist and jimi hendrix was one himself.

But this IS free. These guys invented FREE bop.. The form is still there, but they're still stretching/reaching out and playing freely over the form. Miles himself talks about it in his autobiography.
