Hanna-Barbera version has more killing, more explosions, and more about war. It is also more religious: it says : Holy Bible" directly, and takes place in a church. It is more complex in storyline: mice ask they teacher what they sing about, there's logic. In contrast, 1939's is more dramatical and spectacular, though. Who can forget the gas mask guy, or The Last Man?

Yes the voice of the Old Church Mouse(Deacon/Choir Master) was the voice of Daws Butler, & NOTICE the how this version (Goodwill To Men)) was different than the original( Peace On Earth using genuine "weapons of mass destruction" (Flame Throwers,Bozookas, semi-automatic rifles,Jet Bombers etc) & Ending with NUCLEAR DESTRUCTION & the distruction of all Mankind as we know of. the original Peace On Earth show the two in a final shootout which ends in a stalemate.

i just can't avoid thinking of:"Did you ever wonder why we had to run for shelter with the promise of a brave new world unfurled beneath a clear blue sky?"

An artful, thoughtful, powerful message in cartoon form. Being produced in '55, this feels like many of the progressive films of the period----but somehow this one apprently was not blacklisted by the reactionaries! Not sure, but the old mouse choir-master sounds like Will Geer, an unafraid outward progressive who struggled for social justice his entire life.
