(July 3)IT'S A PICTURE PERFECT PLACE TO SPEND A SUMMER DAY....EVERY SUMMER FAMILIES FLOCK TO THE JERSEY SHORE FOR SOME RELAXATION BY THE WAVES ON THE BEACH (NAT POP) AND SOME THRILLS ON THE BOARDWALK RIDES....BUT AS KIDS HOP ON CARNIVAL RIDES WITHOUT A CARE IN THE WORLD...PARENTS CAN'T SEEM TO GET AWAY FROM THE WORRIES OF HOME(ANNE FOOTE) 00:06:50 "here we are at the beach and the rides and it's kind of depressing"ANNE FOOTE RECENTLY LOST HER JOB AS A LEGAL SECRETARY.....SHE BROUGHT HER DAUGHTER AND HER FRIENDS TO THE BEACH AS A SWEET SIXTEEN PRESENT BECAUSE SHE SIMPLY COULDN'T AFFORD TO THROW HER A BIG PARTY....THE PRESSURE OF EVERYTHING PUT TOGETHER HAS FOOTE LOSING SLEEP(ANNE FOOTE)00:12:05 sometimes it keeps me up and night thinking oh no two kids in college how are we gonna do this...."even if you're not umemployed or don't have a gas guzzlin car and have to watch your money you still don't wanna push your luck and have something extravagant just in case that other shoe does drop"BILL IREY FEELS THE SAME WAY.....HE BROUGHT HIS FAMILY TO THE BEACH AS A TREAT FOR HIS WIFE'S BIRTHDAY....IREY WORKS IN CONSTRUCTION AND WITH THE SLOWING ECONOMY THE FAMILY VACATIONS ARE FEWER AND FARTHER BETWEEN...THEY OFTEN STAY CLOSE TO HOME AND TAKE DAY TRIPS TO CUT DOWN ON HOTEL COSTS.....IT'S A LIFESTYLE CHANGE HE'S SAD TO PUT HIS KIDS THROUGH(BILL IREY) 00:25:00 taking it one day at a time seeing how work is work isn't as plentiful as it was bottom fell out of construction so you make do you pay the bills and what you have leftover you do what you can to make the kids happy(MARGIE O'CONNELL)00:38:00 it stinks because they're the young ones they dont get to do as much as we doMARGIE O'CONNELL IS A CLASSROOM AID....WITH THE HELP OF PARENTS WHO HAVE A HOUSE NEAR THE BEACH, SHE WAS ABLE TO GIVE HER KIDS SUMMER VACATION....IT WASN'T EXACTLY THE VACATION THEY PLANNED...ORIGINALLY THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO GO TO DISNEYWORLD BUT THAT WAS A BIT PRICEY....BUT WHAT WORRIES HER MORE IS THE TYPE OF ATMOSPHERE HER KIDS ARE GROWING UP IN(MARGIE O'CONNELL)00:39:29 i'm hoping that for the next generation that things will look up we have a cousin in iraq so hopefully with a new president this war will endTHEY'RE HEAVY WORRIES TO CARRY WITH YOU TO THE BEACH.....BUT IF THE SUN AND SAND AREN'T ENOUGH TO PULL THEM OUT OF THE DEPRESSED FUNK THEY FEEL, PERHAPS A TURNING ECONOMY WILL....IN SEASIDE HEIGHTS NEW JERSEY BONNY GHOSH THE ASSOCIATED PRESS.... ___ ___, The Associated Press.
