I´ve seen and heard Nina Stemme in Gothenburg as Elisabeth (Tannhäuser), Tosca, Sieglinde (Concert house & Stockholm), Feldmarschallin and Arabella. She is the world-leading soprano in her fach. She and Katarina Dalayman makes us proud to be Swedes nowadays too.

Not very relevant dramatically, but what a technique!

Yes she has, and I think it's probably going to prove to be a mistake unless she's really, really careful, and has the right technique. I'd hate for her to end up like so many others in the past who've sang way out of their vocal range, and then crashed and burned.

Never before and never again will there be a voice as powerful as hers.

For pure drivel, that takes some beating. (Recommended reading: Language, Truth and Logic by A.J. Ayer)

JABE,I'll try:The Nilsson EVENT was beyond aesthetics, beyond mental comprehension; it was sublime. Mythologist, J. Campbell says the sublime is not about beauty, which pleases, but is something that outreaches human comprehension. It is associated with prodigious power, force, energy. It diminishes ego & consciousness. Rather like the Greek Katharsis in which the mind, cleansed of secular aims, is released to spiritual rapture. In other words to be totally blown out of your mind.

Phantastic by any standard.

I think Nina Stemme can be, will be or has already began concerning Wagnerian roles.

Oh no? Check out the new Swedish wonder: Nina Stemme! (for example Isolde's Liebestod and Rosenkavalier here on YouTube.) (Isolde she sang at Bayreuth recently.) Listen (and look) and tell me what you think! |
