You don't have to be traditionalist to play jazz for there are plenty of broke purist who play once a year or during some "Jazz" festivals. Which is another subject I might add in reference to who actually plays Jazz. Smooth jazz? I love it. Look who you see playing at "Jazz" festivals.

Kenny finally made enough money to finally do some other stuff, The Duets CD, The Classics CD, The Christmas CD's. Do your thang man! If ya research him you will watch him grow as I did. From the Lorber days to the eigthties reverbed intonation disasters with Kashif and his own stuff and now. He has paid his dues and made his mark, with Pop, Funk, R&B and Jazz, yes jazz!

Each genre is a different language and not everyone can speak them all. Gerald Albright is a funkster, with a bluesy edge, plus a jazz background and chops. Kenny G has paid his dues as a sideman with Jeff Lorber which is where I started listening to him. Dug him then and now. You cannot dispute the fact that he has a signiture sound and signiture riffs, but who the hell don't. He was able to cross over and I am happy as hell for him! Record company will pigeon hole and for sales you buy into it

Unfortunetely, people seem to forget that jazz is not the only genre of music for the saxophone, yet when you say you play sax you get bombarded with all the jazz players names.Boots Randolph, Junior Walker, Maceo Parker, Clarence Clemons to name a few who are not jazz players, although any good saxophonists at least got some roots from Jazz or at least should.
