Who the hell said Oscar is average??? Man... That's about as absurd an observation as one could possibly make in any musical context -it's tantamount to saying Mozart's compositions are middle-headed, disorderly and confused. If Oscar Peterson isn't a great pianist, then the very concept just has no meaning.

You are so right. Oscar still blows my mind. I agree that Tatum is the greatest Jazz pianist of all time, but I actually think Peterson had a more polished sound.Still, when Peterson said he couldn't play when Tatum came it, that's saying something.
