水銀灯の下で見つけた スズメ(前翅長37mm)。手に乗せたら風をあおいでくれ、しばしの涼を得ました。(動画編集時に明るく補正してあります)Preflight warmup of a small hawkmoth (Theretra japonica) on my hand. Recorded at night of early-August, 2007 in Japan. Interestingly, the hawk moth is called "suzume-ga" in Japanese, meaning "sparrow moth".Music : Madison Park - My Personal Moon NST Mix

thx for watching.i did not know the dutch expression.but it reminds me of similar expression of moth in french.as u may know, some moth species are active in daytime and are as beautiful as butterflies.

Oh I agree completely,I live in Japan myself, and I love "butterflies of the night"like they say in Holland, not one bad association except the poisoned ones, you know those art deco brown and green cuties with luminious green caterpillars on cherry and persimmon trees, that is so awfully painful..but I,like you cannot resist inviting them to walk over me:-)

Aww that's cute. I love these moths. They are my favorites because they are like little birds especially hummingbirds. If I can ever make a movie of the moths here I'll let you know. I judt haven't figured out a way to film at night yet.

looks a bit similar, indeed.this hawkmoth (Theretra japonica) is called "ko-suzume" in japanese, meaning "petit sparrow (moth)".you can also see english text of my vid info after japanese part.it is always my pleasure to receive comments from moth lovers around the world.

thank you so much for your nice comment.the grass is always greener on the other side.as an evangelist, let's post video clips of your native moths!i have heard a story about the outbreak of vampire moths in finland a few months ago.

Wow, that's a nice one. Japan has a fascinating set of exclusive birds and insects, I am jealous.About your comment above, it's true that many people says that butterflies are pretty while moths are disgusting. Some even think moths drink blood or are bad omens (some sphingidae if I am not wrong).I personally disagree. For me moths are like plush jet airplanes, ehehe.

yeah, you are right.and they are adorable as well as cool on my hand.i am a little sad that in jpn moths are hated as pests while butterflies are unconditionally adored.that is unfair discrimination....many ppl fear that moth scales are ALL toxic or allergy-provoking.ur videos should be broadcasted to enlighten the public about the beauty and diversity of lepidoptera.
