agreed the GUI will teach you nothing of linux. linux really shines at what it is at heart, a command line. until you sit down with the CLI in linux you don't know anything.

I understand what you're saying and I agree, however the "easier" linux distros are designed for simple transitions from other OSs like Windows... but with simple point and click distros of Linux, you really don't learn much about Linux... If you want to learn Linux, you use Slackware or Gentoo.

huh?

Mostly true, I try to avoid wasting system resources hence why I avoided Vista and now use Linux. But how can you argue against having multiple desktops? Would you turn down a free second monitor for your computer?

less people whining about their computer not working/slowing down?

Linux is only confusing because people are used to windows.Another misconception is that Linux is less user friendly than windows, when in fact it's the opposite.Everyone I know keeps asking me to fix their windows computer because they crap out over time and need constant maintenance. Linux doesn't need that, that's why I converted so many people to use Xubuntu (Ubuntu if they have new computers)

still loling:"SLACKWARE?! come on, let's not freak people out"Actually, I started off on Slackware :-) bad choice, but I use Linux everyday now!

That's ok, I WILL agree that even with Desktop Effects it is faster than Windows. I also had to turn off the Effects, though, because it was interfering with some programs.

Oh..well for my system that is how it seems. Desktop is actually a lot smoother with effects enabled. |
