I think she is a well spoken woman who has a lot to say about things people do not feel comfort to talk about!beautiful poetry!

I do agree, slightly, with most spoken word being "crap" however, it is that small, small percentage of wordsmiths that have contributed immenseley to the intellectual discourse; Suheir Hammad is among those poets! Her resume speaks for itself. On the contrary, sister/brother, I think those who criticize blindly, do so, out of laziness and outright snobbery of the facts. I'm sorry to say, but I get a sense that your comments are rooted in agression and convaluted thinking.

Spoken word is like a painting everyone sees something different. I see a women pissed off her people Muslims/Arabs are viewed negatively. She comments in her little diddy "She says Ricardo in his accent thick as yucca" Yo that could easily be taken the wrong way by latinos. So kick back lady, most spoken word is crap anyway, go back to your acting class and part time job at the Gap.PS can someone who does spoken come up with a little different cadence as they speak, so as to be original. |
